A number is first reduced by 8.the remainder is then multiplied by 5. The product is then increased by 8. The final result is 48. What is the number?

the first number is = x.

x- 8 = y    ...(i)

y . 5 = z   ....(ii)

z + 8 = 48  ...(iii)

z=48-8   ,,(iii)

z=40

y= z/5   ..(ii)

y = 40/5

y = 8

x-8 = y  .... (i)

x= y+8

x= 8 + 8

x = 16.  the number is 16.

proof of the number:

16 reduce by 8 = 8

8 multiplied by 5 = 40

40 increased by 8 = 48
